Jubiliation

The crowd filled up every inch of our flatscreen TV
Perched on statues
Eyes closed in prayer
Wrapped in cashmere blankets - but none as comforting as the words of the man at the podium;

An oasis of hope and faith - after years of being parched for some sense of rationality from my country;

He stands for those truths that have me travel to Africa; sign Amnesty International petitions; enroll in Environment Illinois.
He speaks of sacrifice and values and inclusion.
To those who wonder about his lack of experience - I wonder about their lack of humanity;

Huddled in our Gisborne living room, America has been returned to me.
